Well Apple has gone ahead and started to make the switch on the laptop line to Core 2 Duo. They have only transitioned the MacBook Pro’s at this time.
There are 3 models:
- 15″ 2.16 Ghz, 120 gig HD, 1 gig ram, 128 video: $1,999
- 15″ 2.33 Ghz, 120 gig HD, 2 gig ram, 256 video: $2,499
- 17″ 2.33 Ghz, 160 gig HD, 2 gig ram, 256 video: $2,799
They all come in anti-glare or glossy and feature a new MagSafe Airline Adapter which runs an additional cost of $59. The hard drive is upgradeable to 200 gigs, and ram can be upgraded to 3 gigs. Quite the amazing laptop configuration if you ask me.
The 200 gig HD does only run at 4,200 rpm where the 160 runs at 5,400 and 120 at 7,200.
The main difference is the new Core 2 Duo chip which is said to run at an additional 39% faster. There is also an additional 2 megs of L2 cache and the Superdrive is now 6x compared to 4x.
I want to know when they are upgrading my MacBook (non Pro). 😦
