Well I woke up yesterday at 5am to go to my dad’s store to pick up his new deli manager’s golf clubs. $4000 set of clubs. My dad makes a point of saying “that’s big the big daddy” about the driver.
go down to Bradenton with my boss and sit thru the meetings, breakfast, lunch, then golf…I go to the driving range to get some shots off for free…..
First shot I take out the MOAD (mother of all drivers) and tee up the ball….take aim, swing….and it goes flying. Yep the head of the club breaks off and goes flying down the range.
OH SHIT!!!! I almost wanted to just not golf the rest of the day. I ended up going…it was cool the carts had GPS and told you how far you were from the goal, and kept score. I was in a team of 4 (as was everyone). We had 2 really good guys, one guy who had never played, then me… I haven’t been in a while so I wasn’t as great as Tiger (err as I once was), but I could whack it straight far enough.
The two good guys on our team decided to leave after 9 holes and we were only 2 over par. That sucked and we ended up doing ehh okay the rest of the way with just 2 players (we were playing best ball)…We ended up 5 over par.
The winning team was 7 under. They gave away prizes for 1st thru 3rd place teams, best drive, closest to the pin (men and women) and I didn’t win any of these…which I pretty much anticipated losing after not playing for so long.
I had a good time and that is what matters.
They had wings and quesadillas for us afterwards with an awards ceremony.
I stopped into the Pro Shop and showed him the club and asked what could be done. He said something along the lines of “oh that brand is really good about simply sending it back to them and they will repair it…I’ve sent them back with no problem before.” ::Wipe brow:: I’m still praying that is the case, otherwise I’ve got an expensive driver to buy.
Since I went over with my boss, I had to wait around for him and we were talking with all the execs, etc. Had a good time shooting the breeze and ended up going over to The Crab Trap II in Ellenton for some seafood and I had a steak. VERY good place.
Got home around 10pm-ish.
All in all a fun day….had to wake up at 5am today to return the clubs. Sigh…Man I am hoping that works out.
